When Google bought Waze a few years ago, people thought it was only integrated into Google Maps. However, this did not happen. Waze does its own thing, it changes every day. Although it includes certain features of leading GPS solutions, Waze still uses social features to surpass Google Maps, co-pilot GPS, Komoot and other competitors.
A powerful application with real-time updates, social functions and an intuitive interface
With Google as the parent company, w can also access the huge database of Google (the parent company) to provide comprehensive search results.
When the application is opened, the on-screen map of the location shows nearby receiving accident, traffic, police and construction alerts. Unlike other GPS applications, w is a fairly common feature in most GPS solutions while avoiding highways and toll roads.
You must ride at least 100 miles before this app will no longer consider you a beginner. To make the message clear (no pun intended), the profile icon displays a dummy until you have mounted. This may be a little annoying at first, but once you have been using Waze for a while, you can customise the icon with numerous options. You can use "Waze Moods" to express yourself with funny pictures as profile icons.
Using Google's database, Waze can even search for numerous local businesses with Waze. When you click on a business, a map of the location is displayed and you can call, visit the website or get directions to it. Waze also displays a widget with the travel time to your saved work or home location.
The UX is quite similar to Google Maps, which gives it an advantage over other apps. You get the same kind of search bar, navigation options and on-screen information as the parent company's leading app GPS.
One area where Waze falls short of some of its competitors is in its speed limit alerts. They simply do not exist! A big advantage is the navigation screen, which has a simple interface and displays the speed. When you enter the destination, only a pop-up window appears with the distance, ETA and journey time (time).
One of the best features in Waze is 'share drive'. It allows you to connect with other 'wazers' on the road, making it a powerful social platform to engage with the community. Unlike its competitors, Waze uses incredible algorithms to learn your preferences for navigation, alternative routes and other decisions. With Google's support, this was actually to be expected.
Waze also accepts voice commands to give you hands-free control. This allows you to focus on the road while interacting with the app to get navigation information. The voice prompts are loud and timely, making the app the ideal choice for drivers who do not like to be distracted.
If the 'Share Drive' function is a bit too much for you, you can set your
profile to 'Invisible'. This way you will not appear on other people's mobile
phone screens. You can still set a radius to receive notifications about
traffic events so you do not miss important information about the journey.
Waze
lets you set colour schemes, petrol station preferences and choose between
different language options such as Elvis and Boy Band. These features are not
available in other apps like CoPilot GPS and Komoot and make Waze both a
navigation app and an interesting social GPS solution.
If you are one of those people who just want easy navigation. With Waze, you can make adjustments without much effort. All the other features are added benefits for those who are on the go a lot. Social functions, game mechanisms and the map chat function make Waze a powerful GPS solution for everyone.
